The Lost City Celebration

The Lost City Celebration is a special celebration of the 100th anniversary of Cecil B. Demille’s “The Ten Commandments”.  Filmed in Guadalupe, California, it was the largest movie set in the world and when filming was completed, the set was left and buried in the sands!

In the century that’s followed, the site was rediscovered and artifacts found and shared.  This 3-day celebration in Guadalupe and Arroyo Grande will have a variety of events and activities with fun for all ages and interests!

Friday night’s VIP Dinner in Guadalupe will feature Historian Peter Brosnan, the man credited with bringing the rediscovery of the film’s site to the world.

Saturday’s day-long event at the Clark Center in Arroyo Grande will allow visitors to learn the history of silent films in the area, their impact on modern day films and then finish with a screening of the segment of the film shot in Guadalupe with a live music accompaniment.  The Expo will bring together the film and entertainment community through networking, education and hands-on experiences from 10 AM-4:30 PM. The daytime activities will kick-off with “The Central Coast Showcase” featuring films from local filmmakers and media students. This portion of the Expo is FREE for the community thanks to generous grants and partnerships. No tickets required. The evening special event features a panel discussion with Peter Brosnan, and a screening of the first 45 minutes of the 10 Commandments with LIVE MUSIC!  Doors Open for the special event at 6 PM. Tickets required.  The evening special event is brought to you in partnership the SLO International Film Festival, and through the generosity of the Cecil B DeMille Foundation.

The all-day event on Sunday brings the fun and festivities back to Guadalupe – where it all began!  Featuring music and comedy entertainment, special one-day $5 specials from many of Guadalupe’s restaurants (in partnership with the Guadalupe Business Association’s Taste of Guadalupe event), the City will also feature screenings, panel discussions, a car show and even a special dig site for the kids!

The Lost City Celebration weekend is brought to you partnership with the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Center, the Guadalupe Visual and Performing Arts Center, the SLO International Film Festival, the Central Coast Film Society, and through the generosity of the Cecil B DeMille Foundation.
